Reasons Why Cybersecurity is Important?
In this modern era, as technology is increasing, at the same pace cyber attacks are increasing. We need to stop the cyber attacks as well. We are experiencing many cyber attacks daily.
Even I got prone to one such cyberattack.
One day I got a call from an unknown number, and they offered me free products if I just downloaded their app and signed in to it.
After listening to the offer, I got tempted and did as they advised.
Right 30 minutes after signing in, I got a message from my bank informing me that I had lost 20k from my account.
I was shocked because I knew I had not spent this amount.
Due to a lack of Cybersecurity knowledge, I was not able to regain my lost money back.
But I am writing this article to spread awareness about Cybersecurity and why is it important.
So, what is Cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity is the method of safeguarding systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks. People and enterprises use it to guard against unauthorized keys to data centres and other computerized systems.
Here are the reasons Why Cybersecurity is important.
Protection of Sensitive Information:
It is crucial to protect sensitive information due to the increase in Cyber attacks. Hence, Cybersecurity awareness is important.
Preservation of Privacy:
We can preserve privacy by preventing unauthorized access to personal information stored on computers, mobile devices, and online platforms.
Protection of Critical Infrastructure: Critical infrastructure like energy grids, transportation systems, healthcare facilities, and financial institutions, relies heavily on interconnected computer systems and networks. Cybersecurity is crucial for protecting this infrastructure from cyber attacks.
Prevention of Cybercrime: Hacking, phishing, identity theft, and online fraud are very common these days. Prevention of cybercrime is crucial which is possible by cyber security.
Adherence with Regulations and Standards: The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the United States are some of the rules and regulations to ensure the security and privacy of customer data.
Preservation of Trust and Reputation: Customers, clients, and stakeholders desire organizations to safeguard their data and privacy, and a violation of trust due to inadequate cybersecurity measures can lead to business loss, decline of brand reputation, and legal penalties.
Protecting National Security: Cybersecurity is essential to guarding national security interests, including saving government networks, protecting against cyber intelligence and cyber warfare, and securing the goodness and availability of vital defence systems. Nation-states sponsor cybersecurity abilities to defend their citizens, infrastructure, and strategic assets from cyber dangers posed by hostile actors.
